Top 10 Tricks Invented By Rodney Mullen

These 10 tricks are my favorite tricks invented by Rodney Mullen. Rodney Mullen was a prodigy of his time. He is still known as one of the most influential skaters of all time. With his amazing creativity, he invented tons of tricks that are still heavily used today.

10. Handstand Flip

Yes, it is what it sounds like. This trick is when you perform a handstand on top of the Skateboard, flip it underneath you and land back on with your feet.

9. Primo Slides

Also known as Rusty slides, a Primo Slide is done by turning the skateboard on it’s side while moving, you slide on the side of it, then turn it back over and roll away.

An Airwalk is performed by getting air off of a ramp, grabbing the nose of your skateboard, and kicking your feet off in both directions, then putting it back under your feet when you land.

7. Impossible

An Impossible is when a skater makes the skateboard do a mostly vertical 360 or a “backflip” by doing an ollie, then wrapping their foot around it in a circle motion and landing back on, once it is all the way around.

6. 360 Flip

A 360 Flip is when the skater scoops their back foot to make the skateboard spin 360° and flick their front foot at the same time to make the skateboard flip, so basically it’s a 360 pop shuvit kickflip.

5. Heelflip

A heelflip is when a skater flips the skateboard the opposite way of a kickflip using their heel.

4. Kickflip

The kickflip is one of the most well known skate tricks known to man-kind, and is the gateway to all flip tricks on a skateboard. It is done when one flicks the nose of the skateboard with the toe of their foot, making it flip. One time when Rodney Mullen was just trying an ollie, he accidentally kicked the skateboard out. He watched it flip in the air, and he realized the trick could be done without your hands. The RIDE channel has a whole interview with Rodney Mullen about it:Interview

3. Darkslide

A darkslide is a type of grind trick on a rail or ledge where a skater flips the skateboard halfway and slides standing on the bottom of the skateboard. This trick is so amazing that most skateboarders now can’t do it. (Either that, or they like their griptape not destroyed.)

2. Casper Slide

Rodney-Mullen-casper-slide-tre-flip-outThis trick is kind of like a darkslide but even crazier. A Casper Slide is when the skater flips the skateboard halfway and puts one foot under the board and one at the tail on top. They balance so that its kind of in a manual position. It’s usually done on a manual pad because it looks cooler. This trick is so awesome that a very low percent of skaters can do it now. It really shows how much Rodney Mullen was ahead of his time.

1. Flatground Ollie

Even though this is now one of the most simple tricks to do on a skateboard, it was probably one of the most revolutionary tricks too. The ollie was done in a bowl before him, but it was off a wall so its wasn’t really the same. It was the first ever way to get the board off the ground without putting your feet down.
